Recently, our Tropical Flower summer wallpaper from the new Seasons Collection was featured on Kimberly Duran’s wonderful lifestyle blog, Swoon Digne . This incredibly useful guide to choosing wallpaper is the perfect inspiration if you want to add color, pattern or texture to your home. Here, Kimberly shares her guide to choosing wallpaper, whether you want to make a statement or just after a quick decor refresh: How to Choose Wallpaper (plus 7 inspiring combinations!)

One of my lovely readers, Melinda, emailed me recently asking for a little help choosing a wallpaper. She had her inspiration image handy but wondered if there were any wallpapers that I thought would work with the bold color palette of jades and pinks she had chosen. Immediately a wallpaper came to mind (and it was really immediate because I had just blogged about wallpaperas it was a new favourite). So I thought – this might actually make a good post! I’m of the opinion that there are probably very few rooms that couldn’t be improved a bit more with a wallpaper photo. I love patterns and I love color and for me, as a total and complete maximalist, in my opinion, a little more is always better. I realize that’s probably not the norm – I’m totally ok with that.

Now, the best way to choose wallpaper is to first find a wallpaper you like, then work your piece around the paper; let it be your guide in deciding your color palette and the textures and furniture you will bring. that’s in a perfect world where you have a blank slate and how many of us start out with a completely blank slate?

So what if the room is already almost finished but you are looking for the finishing touch? I figured today I’d show you 6 different style bedrooms (okay, 7 if you count my own living room) – all beautiful and gorgeous in their own way, but the ones that I actually think, could be made a little sexier, a little more swoon-worthy, with the addition of a little wallpaper! And I will tell you not only what I would choose for each of them but also why

TIP #1 – MATCH YOUR WALLPAPER TO THE MOOD YOUR BEDROOM EVOKE

Melinda’s original inspired room and the wallpaper I recommended… I mean, different screens that would work with any of these, but I thought that would be a fun exercise! Let’s get started…

TIP #1 – MATCH YOUR WALLPAPER TO THE MOOD YOUR BEDROOM EVOKES

Let’s start with Melinda’s original inspired room and the wallpaper I recommended… I mean,Castanea from the House of Hackney in white clearly picks up all the wonderful colors.bedroom-and-wallpaper-combo-2From the deep jade of the walls to the pinks and pops of yellow, the color is obviously a big reason I chose this wallpaper. to speak in terms of design, begrudgingly!). Because of this feminine look, I think it’s great to really embrace that and go for a bold floral paper to work with. When I chose the wallpaper in my living room it was a similar scenario – the olive and raspberry color scheme was picked up so well in the paper but more importantly it was the tropical feel of the plants and flowers that showcased all the greenery that lives in this room!

TIP #2 – MOTHER NATURE NEVER CREATES A BAD PALETTE .

The next inspiration image has just the craziest textures – the velvet headboard and the shimmering gold lamp are both stunning and I love this little one. animal print cushion. I really think something very natural but a bit glamorous would work well here, glossy black nightstand with the gold handles and the more natural palette of olive green and dark brown works just as well in this context as it does in nature. When in doubt, Mother Nature never creates the wrong color palette, so get inspired by what you see outside.

TIP #3 – CONSIDER RECURRING THEMES OR COLLECTIONS

Our next space has a much more regal feel to it. It’s stately and mature and looks like it’s been collected over many years and many miles of travel, isn’t it? TIP #4 – CONSIDER RECURRING SHAPES Speaking of natural textures, this next room is just fabulously bohemian! I mean, the rug as a wall hanging is pure genius, isn’t it.
